The Alcea rosea Ficifolia 'Jet Black' , or hollyhock, is basically a biennial plant (or short-lived perennial) with large single flowers, very dark purple, almost black. It flowers in July to October in the 2nd year. Its striking leaves resemble those of a fig tree. Perfect for cottage gardens, along fences or walls, where it adds height and colour. The plant grows to 180-240 cm high.
