Dianthus superbus , the native 'beautiful carnation' is a (short-lived) perennial with narrow grey-green leaves and long stems with very fragrant, fringed flowers in pastel purple. This carnation blooms from June to August.

Pre-sowing is possible in March-April, and direct sowing in open ground from May onwards.

Originally from Europe and Asia, the beautiful carnation grows best in sunny places with well-drained soil.
