Gaura lindheimeri
Gaura lindheimeri , also known as the beautiful candle, is one of the most popular perennials of recent years, not least because of its endless flowering period. The individual flowers are only open for one day, but new flowers appear on the stems every day, just like the evening primrose, to which they are related. It is an elegant plant with small white to pink flowers that seem to dance in the wind. Gaura will self-seed if the faded stems are not cut off, but can also be pre-sown indoors in the spring. The plant can also be propagated with summer cuttings.
Pre-sowing is possible from March, and sowing outdoors from May.
Blooms from May to October and even longer when the stems are cut back after the summer. Regular pruning also keeps the plant nice and compact. This strong plant blooms for a long time and attracts butterflies.
Native to North America, Gaura grows best in sunny spots with well-drained soil.
