Papaver rhoeas
Papaver rhoeas , the well-known native poppy, is a symbol of transience and remembrance. This annual plant blooms in bright colours, usually red, and is loved for its delicate petals that dance subtly in the wind.
Poppies are perfect for natural gardens, wildflower meadows and borders. They attract bees and butterflies, making them an excellent choice for biodiversity.
Sow directly in the open ground in early spring. The seeds need light to germinate, so only press them lightly. They germinate within 7-10 days.
They grow on disturbed soils, fields and roadsides. Poppies prefer sunny spots and well-drained soil. They thrive in poor soils and are easy to maintain.
Papaver rhoeas is native to Europe and is now widespread in temperate regions worldwide.
