Quamoclit lobata (syn. Mina lobata), also known as Spanish Flag, is a spectacular annual climber with racemes of flowers in a range of colours from deep red to orange and cream. These striking flowers resemble small flames, hence the name.
Perfect for covering walls, fences, pergolas or trellises, it adds vertical interest to gardens and attracts pollinators such as butterflies and bees.
Sow indoors in spring. Soak seeds in water for 24 hours to encourage germination. Plant seedlings outdoors after the last frost in a sunny spot.
This plant likes well-drained soil and a sunny, sheltered position. It grows quickly and reaches heights of up to 3-5 metres.
The Spanish flag is native to tropical America, especially Mexico.
