Ratibida Columnifera
The Ratibida columnifera , also known as the Mexican hat or Prairie Coneflower, is a striking, prairie plant with a unique flower shape that resembles Rudbeckia. The flowers consist of hanging, brick-red petals around an elongated, upright flower cone, which gives them an exotic and playful appearance. Thanks to their slender, tall growth habit and long flowering period, they are perfect for adding a natural, wild look to the garden.
Ratibida columnifera is an excellent nectar source for bees and butterflies and attracts many beneficial insects. It combines beautifully with other prairie plants such as Echinacea, Rudbeckia and ornamental grasses.
Sow in February/March and plant out after the last frost. Press lightly and cover only minimally, as the seeds need light to germinate.
It originates from the North American prairies and therefore likes to be in well-drained, not too nutrient-rich soil. Especially no wet feet.
