The Salpiglossis sinuata , or brocade flower, is an ornamental annual plant with trumpet-shaped flowers in orange-red color, often with a marble-like pattern. The flowers feel soft, like velvet.
Ideal for borders, pots or cut flower gardens, their unique texture and colour make them perfect as an eye-catcher.
Sow indoors in early spring. Press seeds lightly without covering. Plant seedlings outdoors after the last frost.
This plant thrives in sunny places with well-drained soil and light shade during hot summer days. (The flower colors fade in too bright sunlight)
The velvet flower is native to Chile, where it grows in open fields.
