The Silybum marianum , better known as Milk Thistle, is an impressive, spiky plant with beautiful purple flowers and striking white-marbled leaves. In addition to its decorative value, this thistle is known for its medicinal applications, especially for supporting the liver. Ideal for natural gardens, bee pastures and as an eye-catcher in borders. The seeds are traditionally used in herbal medicine.

Sow directly in open ground in spring or autumn.

Grows best in full sun in dry, well-drained soil. Very drought tolerant.

Native to the Mediterranean and parts of Asia.
