The Tagetes lucida 'Sweet Mace' , or Mexican tarragon, is a versatile plant with fine, golden yellow flowers and aromatic leaves. This perennial is native to Central America, where it is valued for its culinary and medicinal properties. In our climate it is grown as an annual, or can be kept in a frost-free greenhouse. It grows to about 60 cm high and flowers until autumn. Suitable for borders, pots, herb gardens and edible gardens. The leaves are used as a substitute for tarragon and have a slightly aniseed flavour.
Sow indoors in spring at 18-22°C or directly outdoors after the last frost.
