Asclepias curassavica (tropical milkweed)

This milkweed is an attractive subtropical plant which is treated as an annual under our climate conditions. It flowers in late summer with bright orange red flowers. The stalks contain a poisonous milk, but nevertheless the flowers attract bees en butterflies. After flowering long pods with silky, fluffy seeds appear, hence the name of the plant.
