Malva sylvestris (Tree Mallow)
This family member of the well known hollyhock has the characteristic satin flowers, in this case lilac with striking dark veins. The biennial or short-lived perennial can also be raised as an annual as it flowers in the first year and for a long period. Malva sylvestris self-seeds and is especially attractive to butterflies.
