Nicotiana alata 'Fragrant Cloud' (flowering tobacco)
Originally N. alata was an evening-flowering plant: the flowers stayed close during the day only to open by night, with an overwhelming scent as a bonus. Modern cultivars are also open in daylight, but unfortunately most have lost their scent as well. ‘GRANDIFLORA’=‘FRAGRANT CLOUD’: Closest to the original species. The big flowers are rather discrete during in the course of the day but at night they illuminate the garden and fill it with their heavy scent. – 80 cm. - 100 s.
