The Atriplex hortensis 'Red Flash' , or garden orache, is an annual plant with dark red spikes and striking leaves in shades of green and dark red. Flower spikes appear from June to August, although the plant is mainly valued for its leaves. The tall plants grow to 120-180 cm high and are not only beautiful as an accent plant in the border, but the young leaves are edible (like lettuce and spinach) and are often used in salads and as ornamental greenery. Ideal for the vegetable garden, ornamental gardens or as a striking accent in borders.
