The Basella rubra , or climbing spinach, Malabar spinach, is cultivated as a vegetable in South-East Asia. In our climate it is a decorative climber with shiny, red stems and thick, edible red-brown leaves. The plant is both decorative and functional and can grow up to 2-3 meters high.
Ideal for vertical vegetable gardens and as an ornamental plant, the leaves are edible and rich in nutrients.
