Cynoglossum officinale , or hound's tongue, is a native biennial garden plant with small, intense red flowers and grey-green leaves. During the first year, the plant forms a rosette of leaves; it only forms stems and flowers in the second year. This flower adds a nostalgic element to any border. Hound's tongue flowers from June to August. Remove faded flowers to prolong the flowering period.
Sow directly in open ground from April to May.
Originally a European plant that often grows along paths and in meadows. It does well in partial shade and on permeable, chalky soil.
