Hibiscus sabdariffa 'Red Cocktail'

roselle

Hibiscus sabdariffa ‘Red Cocktail’ is a striking, heat-loving plant with decorative red-tinted stems and deeply lobed, fresh green to reddish leaves. The cream-yellow flowers with a dark red centre are followed by fleshy, bright red calyces, which are the most valued part of the plant.

These calyces are used to make refreshing drinks, tea, and syrups with a lightly sour, fruity flavour — known from hibiscus tea and summer cocktails. The plant is originally tropical and prefers a sunny, sheltered location.

‘Red Cocktail’ combines ornamental value with culinary uses and adds an exotic, colourful touch to the garden or greenhouse.
