Ammobium alatum grandiflorum
Ammobium alatum ‘Grandiflorum’ is a strong annual plant that is particularly popular for its excellent quality as a dried flower. The delicate, crisp flowers are bright white with a striking yellow center, which darkens over time. Combined with the silvery-gray, slightly hairy leaves, this gives the plant a decorative and contemporary look. Those silvery-gray leaves immediately reveal the plant's high tolerance for drought—not surprising for a species that originates from Australia.
It is very suitable for borders, rock gardens, and cutting gardens, and is also cultivated on a commercial scale for the cut‑flower and dried‑flower market. Flowering lasts from summer well into autumn and also attracts bees and other pollinators.
The flowers can be used both fresh and dried, and they retain their shape and colour exceptionally well after drying. They are also easy to dye, which makes them particularly popular with florists and creative hobbyists. For the best drying results, the flowers are harvested just before they fully open and hung upside down in a dry, airy place.
